Utah Prediction Contest: At Colorado

24-13, Colorado.

I don't want it to be this way, but I calls it as I sees it. Our jalopy is sputtering to the finish, and I think the Buffs, as they seem to do with us, smell blood in the water and a rare opportunity for a win. I've not seen CU play even once this year -- I've only seen their scores. And while they've piled up losses, they've had a couple close calls against decent teams and they've scored consistently.

I predicted a 6-6 record this eyar and would have been thrilled three months ago if you told me we found our way to 7-5. With that said, I'll confess, 7-5 now would feel like a letdown knowing we were one home win, and one game against by far the worst team in the conference from 9-3 (and that's with the notion of finally putting the Wazzu loss behind me).

But our offense is dead and buried and we've lost too many players. There's always that unwritten list we fans have in our head of that half dozen guys, or so, that you can't lose or have dinged up and still have skilled team. Well: Dres, Patrick, Paul, Porter, Dimick, Thompson, Whittingham, Rowe; I feel like I'm forgetting a couple others. It's not good.

If we somehow eek out an 8th win this weekend, I'll be content with season's success. And a bowl win would leave me hopeful for things to come. If we finish with three straight losses, I'll confess, I won't have a lot of silver linings about where things are headed.

I feel like you do. CU stinks, but they score points. They are Wazzu all over again, only on the road. There are some lousy defenses in the Pac-12, and CU is on the list. But it doesn't really matter. We can't take advantage of a lousy defense. It feels like our best case scenario in any game is a close, hard fought win.

And I didn't like the body language on our players during that beatdown on Saturday. I'm afraid we come out flat.

Someone want to do a Power ranking of worst Pac-12 losses? I'm curious where this blowout ranks compared to CU in 2011 or USC last year.

I think Utah wins but you gotta be seeing something I'm not to believe Utah will cover the 10 points it's laying against the only team in the league it has failed to cover against since joining the Pac-12.

In my officepool, except last week I've been betting against Utah every week since WSU. Part of it was the rationale that if the Utes lose there's a small recompense. Part of it was my lack of confidence in this team. And part of it was my conviction that you can't let your heart get in the way if you are in a pool or betting and are trying to win, and I overcorrected by betting against the Utes every week. Last week I put a lot of points on the Utes; I thought it was a rational decision. I'd be winning the officepool if it weren't for this team. It's done nothing but set me back. Probably because no matter what you do your heart gets in the way. Fortunately, I'm still within striking distance of winning the pool, and Utah-Colorado is not on this week's pick sheet.
