View Full Version : 2014 Bowl season

We don't have one of these yet, right?

I just watched Memphis give the game away, then BYU give it back. The Tigers recreated Beck to Harline to get the game to OT. BYU finishes 1-3 vs MWC and 2-2 vs AAC.

NIU/Marhsall tomorrow looks like a pretty good one.

Yup, really hoping to see some of our enemies go down.

It's good to be reminded how hateable Todd Graham is. Even with Gary Anderson in the conference, Graham is probably still the worst.

Nah, just disappointed.

The ones I wanted most were duke over asu, Maryland over the cards, and boise over Arizona. So I have one more chance.

On the bright side, 5-0 in bowl games means Utah is about to get a ton of to recruits and will always start in the top 25. That's how everyone keeps telling me this works.

Good news for Travis Wilson fans - there is at least 1 QB in a NY6 bowl who is worse than Travis. I just loved seeing Bo Wallace fire up his offense on the sideline with a great, impassioned QB speech only to go in and throw the worst pick 6 of the season right afterward. Hilarious.

TCU deserved that last playoff spot, and everyone who watched college football this year should have known it. The committee robbed us of a great Alabama beat down just so they could get another power program into the mix.

If TCU deserved to be in, who is out? TCU did not deserve to be in at all. Partly because of their stupid 10 team conference (which TCU did not win until they changed the rules towards the end of the season) and partly because their OOC schedule sucked.

FSU - undefeated.
Alabama/Oregon - SOS much harder, conference champs.
Ohio St. - only loss because they lost their Heisman QB. SOS similar, but Ohio St played and won a conference title game.

TCU - loss not due to injury, weak SOS, no Conf championship game.

I didn't see it but I agree re: our band. Also do something different w the band uniforms. Oregon just wears sweats. I'm not suggesting that going for it on every 4th down is a good thing, or turning the ball over is a good thing. No; you should have learned something; but as usual all you hear is the roar of your own head. This game isn't about pretty uniforms and fancy formations. It's about defense and eating yardage and time, like Whittingham and Urban football.

Had it not been for Kaelin Clay's obscene moranity we would have beaten Oregon. I will always believe that, and I will never get over my rage at Kaelin Clay. Did you guys see that statistic that Oregon has not come back form 14 down since October 2, 2010? When Ohio State went up 14 they said that this the most -- 14 points -- that Oregon has been down this season. That made me want to puke. Still we were only down 30-27 in the fourth quarter. Just doing arithmetic we'd have bee up 34-23 in the fourth quarter but for Clay's debacle.

Question: During the game, I wondered if Utah's front 7 would have matched up better than Oregon's? I thought we would have put more pressure on Jones, and would have been better at stopping the inside runs. Secondary? I don't know about that.

I agree. And more pressure on Jones would have helped the secondary. I think OSU's run game was their heart and soul on offense.

Defense? Lol, Ohio State had 4 turnovers, which I believe only lead to 7 points. If Oregon's offense could have cashed in on what their defense gave them, they'd have won it going away.

Ohio State had 538 yards of total offense. They never attempted a field goal. They averaged 10.5 yards per completed pass. They went for it on 4th down on their own side of the field, when they had a 4 point lead.

This was absolutely not the ultra conservative, play not to lose, take no chances offense that Whittingham runs.

By the way, I agree with you about Clay. I think we'd have won that game if it weren't for that play. I also think we'd have beaten Washington State if we went for it on 4th and inches, and we'd have beaten Arizona State if we'd thrown the ball more.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda...

Well I think Urban would have prepared for that and his gameplan would have exploited a different weakness.

He did his homework and knew Oregon would struggle with this game plan. If he was going against Utah, he'd have destroyed us in a different way.

I'm sure Whit would have made a better game of it than 59-0.

I don't know if he would have or not. Arizona won 42-10 in Salt Lake. Ohio State is obviously a much better team, and much better coached than Arizona. What would Urban have done instead, if the game was not in Salt Lake, and he knew they needed to jump some teams to get into the playoff?

I'm reminded of that 2010 TCU game, also in Salt Lake.
