All of this is currently tentative and subject to change at any time. wishes of the family.

There is a memorial tailgate being planned for Saturday, February 11 in memory of Chris Evans aka WebMonkey. The service will likely be at the Guardsman tailgate lot or at Sunnyside Park depending on arrangements with the University. The time is still TBD but will likely be 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

More details as they become available.

U-Ute - I definitely will le you know when I get any updates. BTW, strange thing. I tried to reply to your PM but when I did my space bar wouldn't work when I was typing.

Yeah, that's a known issue with VBulletin and Chrome (and sometimes Firefox).

If you hit the "Switch Editor to Source Mode" button (the left-most button on the toolbar), you can type again.

Another workaround is just to type the first word, then hit "enter," and from the next line on the problem goes away. (You do have to re-join that first word with the rest of the post, but that's a snap.)

Not my call but it sure seems OK to me. Most of the people there were on UF.net at some point.

I know Chris. He would be enthusiastically in favor of larger crowds. He always was.

Definitely agree with SheeeeeUTE, the more, the better. Here's the official word from the Facebook announcement:

Please join us in a memorial tailgate for Chris Evans owner and operator ofUtefans.net (http://utefans.net/) and friend to many. Come to the tailgate lot Saturday between 11 and 1 and bring a potluck dish to share memories, your love of the Utes, and help us celebrate Chris' life. Share this invite with others who may be interested. RSVP appreciated so we can be prepared, but not required. PM John Theiling-Chambers (KTownUte) or Elaine Totten (Freaky Girl) with questions.

In true tailgate fashion, please bring canopies, fire pits, tables and lawn chairs. Forecast is currently 40* with snow.

Chris's desire was to be cremated with no funeral, but a Celebration of Life only. So those who are not family but wish to pay respects, this will be the best event for you to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that you bring a tailgating dish to share.

Just a quick update to a question that has come up a few times. The 1:00 PM end time for Chris's service is a soft end. If anyone wants to stay longer you are certainly welcome to stay. I know there are some that are considering hanging out until time to go to the basketball game and that's fine. The only caveat is that Guardsman is not closed to the public like it is on game days. If people come into the lot to park, they have priority.

Did anybody go to this event? Can we get a report?

For better or worse, Chris has been an important influence on this fanbase. I hope that we were able to send him out with a nice shindig.

Yes, I was there. I didn't count, but I'm guessing there were around 30 or so in attendance. Maybe ten or so from Chris' family, including his mother, a couple siblings, his two daughters and his ex wife (not the crazy one, but the mother of his daughters). Most everyone else was from the long time tailgating group. BBQ Ute was there providing food. Also there: Freaky Girl, KTown, Cap'n Warfare, Loiter, Ilove22s, etc.

There was an open mic, and several of us spent a few minutes talking about Chris, the Pirate Ship, how we met, the impact he had on our lives, etc. There was a table set up with pictures and the "BCS Booty" sign from the Pirate Ship. It was a pretty nice event. There is a "real" fund for donations if you are so inclined, at Mountain America CU, called the Chris Evans fund I believe.

His estranged wife, Kara, has set up a go fund me account but that money does not go toward the expenses incurred by the family for cremation, etc. It just goes to Kara. I'm not going to get into that whole situation except to say that it appears to be a shameless exploitation of Chris' death, so please stay away from that one.

It was a good idea, and a nice tribute.
