Weird question. Did that rule that they were considering regarding players being able to play in bowl game without it counting against their eligibility ever go anywhere?! In other words, can players like Boyd be able to play in the bowl game?

Boyd is an interesting case. He enrolled at Tech in January 2017 and was kicked off team and out of school shortly after. I would assume that he is using his redshirt year this year, so I don't think he can play unless he burns that redshirt.

In the two cases I am familiar with (Jason Thompson for us, squally Canada against us for BYU) were transfers who had sat two full semesters post transfer (Wyoming and wazzu) and since fall semester had ended, each played without burning a whole year.

Like you said, I don't think Boyd can pull this off

Every projection I've seen has Utah vs a Big12 team. I've seen KSU, ISU, and Texas.

With UW at 13 in the CFP rankings and TCU at 11, there's a chance the Pac-12 sneaks two teams into NY6 bowls. That would bump everyone up one rung in the Pac-12 pecking order, but I don't think it would be enough for Utah to get into a Pac-12 affiliated bowl.

Yeah - for once being the worst of the Pac 12 bowl eligible teams might play to our benefit. UCLA and Oregon are both 4-5 in league play and we're 3-6, so even if that happens we shouldn't bump up to whatever the last Pac 12 bowl is.

I think the bowl order for the Pac-12 is:

1) Rose (not this year)
2) Alamo
3) Holiday
4) Foster Farms
5) Sun
6) Vegas
7) Cactus

I'm not sure what the selection rules are. But there are 6 games there for 7 teams if the Pac-12 gets two into the NY6.

A chance to even up the series.

It doesn't matter. Some conference flops in bowls every year, and nobody remembers for more than a week. People do remember the playoffs, and we aren't there. With the playoffs, the bowls are less meaningful than ever. Say the pac-12 had gone 8-2 in bowls - would anyone have noticed or cared? No - what they would remember is that we missed the playoff.

So...enjoy your shadenfreude. Go Wolfpack, Nittany Lions, and Buckeyes!

Now if someone will just find out why they’re making tons of money for being terrible.

Honestly, collegiate football and basketball officials are very well paid, and at least in the Pac-12 they seem to rarely be held accountable for anything.

Officials and weather forecasters...two jobs where being correct is optional.

So the PAC-12 has 8 bowl losses this year. That is the worst record in the history of CFB.

Does anybody remember (or care) who previously held the record?

The previous record for total losses was set last year by the Big 10, who went 3-7. The B1G is 7-0 this year, and if Michigan beats SCar, they will be 8-0.

In two weeks, nobody will even remember the record this year.
