My wife just asked me why the gymnasts are wearing blue ribbons in their hair. I can’t find anything on it. Does anyone here know?

We’ve watched all the events this year and never heard them talking about that. You’d think they’d mention it during the broadcasts.

My wife heard some people around us asking this exact question when we were at the UW meet but she couldn't figure out a way to answer it without using words or phrases that may be unsuitable for the young ears sitting around us.

So my guess is announcers have been told to avoid it altogether.
