With Gustin out and Smith hobbled, I hope we see a steady dose of Moss, who really had his coming out party last year against this defense.

If that's effective for us, I think we win. USC's run defense looked strong vs Colorado. There was high praise for Jay Tufele.

In fact, that might be the key match up. If they stop our run game, I'm not sure what we do. It will be interesting to see how our offense reacts if things don't go smoothly.

We need Daniels to make freshman on the road in a tough environment kind of mistakes.

I think it generally happens against more talented teams. We can be favored against USC, but we'll never be the stronger, faster, deeper, more athletic team. We've been playing better than USC, but USC is capable of playing better than us. I think that's why we're concerned. It's the same reason we're going to be more concerned about UCLA next week than about ASU the following.

Bill Riley keeps plugging this game as the “biggest game of the PAC-12 era.” I’m not sure where he’s coming from on that take. Sure, it’s a big game where a win would put us in good position to finally win the south. But we’ve had multiple games where we just had to win that game and we would have won the south. That seems like a “bigger” game to me. Given our history with “biggest games,” I really hope the players don’t believe Bill Riley.

A win would keep us in the hunt, but we'd still just be one of many 2-loss teams.

We've had many bigger games in the Pac-12. This game is no bigger than the UW game earlier this year.

That was completely ones-sided. We made three of the worst kind of mistakes you can make in a game, and we still won easily. Started down 14-0 and came back with a vengeance. Huntley made great throws and runs. Chase Hansen is a god. Moss was brutal.

What’s nice is that the Utes control their own destiny, and it’s doable. How satisfying would it be to beat every team in the south and then in the title game avenge many past abuses from Chris Peterson. Tonight is the first time in a long time I’ve actually felt like we’re good. This feels like the last half of 2007.

Yeah with the appearance of a real offense the last three games, there is a chance that we are legitimtally good.

I think this schedule (Oregon at home, and road games against an improved UCLA, a decent ASU, and a pretty good Colorado team vs. USC with 4 bye weeks) is to much to overcome.

Plus, we have been really blessed on the injury front.

My Utes fan PTSD is in remission. I loved the confidence and aggressiveness the team played with on both offense and defense. It was beautiful to watch them take the game to USC. Huntley seems so comfortable now, and suddenly seems to have a bunch of weapons in his receiving corps — guys we haven’t seen much of this season. His long passes were excellent and that lightning strike he threw to Simpkins for the TD was a thing of beauty.

We could all go on and on. I’ll just say that tomorrow’s my birthday and tonight I got two early presents — first, a Ute beatdown of USC and second, my favorite National League team getting into the World Series against my favorite American League team. A pretty good night.

Fans get too high when things are going well, and too low when they aren’t. 12 games is a long season. A lot will happen over the next 4 games. This game did not “likely determine the PAC-12 South title”.

Agree. I hope we win out, but that's asking a lot. I watched about half of the UW/CU game today. The Buffs looked pretty good on the road. Oregon has looked very good every time I've seen them this season.

The funny thing is, when Tufele returned the fumble for the TD, I thought history was repeating itself. I immediately thought of Kaelin Klay dropping the TD a foot short of the goal line that enabled Oregon to go up `14-0, in almost exactly the same place that Tufele scored. I thought "OMG, here we go again." I thought it might be over by halftime.

I rewatched the first three quarters of the game during my lunch break (thanks Pac-12 football in 60). I was amazed by our tackling all game long. For example, Maxs Tupai is the only defender on a sweep AND he's trying t fight off a block. He forces the runner inside, which in and of itself is amazing but then he reacts to the cut and tackles the guy for a loss. Also, Javelin Guidry all alone in the flat fights off Pittman's spin move and makes an ankle tackle. Lots of other examples. These are two yard gains which easily could have gone for 20+. Props to the D.
