Actually, I'm pretty excited about this. It should be a fun game. I think it'll depend on who decides to sit out. Hopefully nobody does but I'd understand if they do.

As I understand it, Utah is a 7 point favorite right now.

There were some cryptic tweets out there suggesting Moss might play.

Anything cryptic became nice and clear Saturday. Moss and Huntley will play the bowl game.

With Blackmon and Hubert out too, we will definitely have a depleted secondary.

No. The line has really struggled against talented teams this season - USC, UW, Oregon, and now Texas.

I'm not sure what to think.
These last two games were embarrassing.

As our offensive line goes, so goes this team. Huntley hasn’t had a clean pocket all night, and no holes have been opened for Moss. We aren’t injured on the O-Line, so why the late season swoon? Harding gets a lot of credit as a member of this staff. Should he be shouldering some of the blame?

Get the sense Huntley is the only guy playing with any fire. Unfortunate. A number of guys exposed.

The program is just not there yet, I guess.

There's no shame in losing but I hate watching the team quit trying (at least, that's how it looks to me).

Overall, the future is bright. Gotta remember that.
It's probably not an issue for 2020, but Whit needs to solve the post-CCG hangover. That's two bowl games in a row now.

so why the late season swoon?

It's just a matter of opponent. Our 3-star line is fine against Cal and Wazzu, but it can't compete against a 4/5-star defensive line.

I think some of this is a hangover from Oregon as well. We had our hearts set on playoffs, and we crashed hard.

Wow. It's one thing to be embarrassed on national TV -- we have a lot of experience doing that -- but this time it's pure humiliation.

Agree. It's clear we aren't as good as we hoped, but we certainly aren't as bad as we showed tonight.

Nothing against Texas. They clearly earned it tonight, but I think there's something to Sancho's thought. They're just college kids. They play with a lot of emotion.

It's amazing how far emotion goes in college sports. That's why every coach finds a way to convince his team that no one believes in them. That's why you don't bet against a G5 playing in a bowl game against a P5.

I also think that the season is too long. The Utes played 14 games spread out over something like 18 or 19 weeks. That's a long time for kids to stay dialed in. I think the Utes peaked vs. UCLA.

Crazy how different this team will look next season. New QB, RB, DT’s, LB and IMO the entire defensive secondary is up for grabs. If I was a FR CB or S I’d be licking my chops at the opportunities. Next season will require the best coaching of Kyle’s career.

Yeah, this was our "once in 5 years" chance with all the seniors.

This is common in bowl games. I always do well in the office pool I belong to in bowl games betting against the team that I can tell really doesn't want to play this game. In the inferior bowls especially there's often one team that is grateful or happy to be there and one that's disappointed. This is why we won the Sugar Bowl in 2008. This game was all about mind and emotion, and I don't blame the players. But Texas is more talented, like Oregon.

Times like this, I think about how little sports actually matter to me. My wife's jury trial trial last month mattered a lot to me. And I'm so glad she won. Life is good.

So many important games left to play in the NFL and college, and I'm already really sick of football.

All of the Pac-12 runner's up have lost their bowl games.

Yeah, you enjoy it/hate it as it's happening, but, I can move on quickly, like within minutes. Kids, spouse or close friends/family enjoying success or failure lingers far, far longer.

Maybe that’s a problem with conference championship games. The letdown is hard to overcome. Ironically, the P12 wouldn’t have expanded if Larry Scott hadn’t wanted a championship game.

There's nothing wrong with a championship game. You just have to win it.

It was just a bit of subtle irony. The history suggests that PAC-12 teams lose their bowl games because they have a hard time recovering from losing the championship game. This harms the conference's reputation. Yet a driving reason for the decision to expand to 12 teams was to have enough teams for a championship game. There's nothing wrong with having such a game -- it's great; but we may be seeing an ironic unintended consequence of the decision. That's all.
