In mid-April 1943, American cryptanalysts intercepted a message detailing the itinerary of Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, who would be visiting air bases in the Solomon Islands. The Japanese were at the time conducting Operation I-Go, an air assault against American air bases in the lower Solomons and in New Guinea. Yamamoto's visit was to boost the morale of his pilots. With the message revealing Yamamoto's itinerary, President Roosevelt ordered U.S. forces in the Pacific to "Get Yamamoto." A Squadron of P-38 Lightnings carrying extra fuel tanks could just make the flight from Guadalcanal to Bougainville.

I'm actually an admirer of Yamamoto. He was smart, ethical, honorable.

And he is the prime example of what happens to honorable people when the radical elements of society are able to win control.

Robert E. Lee is a similar example.
