When two Swedish economists set out to examine whether economic freedom made people any more or less racist (http://ideas.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2013/05/15/economic_freedom_makes_countries_less_homophobic_b ut_not_less_racist), they knew how they would gauge economic freedom, but they needed to find a way to measure a country’s level of racial tolerance. So they turned to something called the World Values Survey, which has been measuring global attitudes and opinions for decades....

I am very suprised to see France, Isreal, and South Korea as being so racist.

Really? Those were among the ones I expected to look like that. I was actually surprised by Japan, England, and the Christian democracies being as blue as they are...but I suppose the race struggles in those nations haven't affected the willingness of people of a different race to live next to each other yet.

Yeah, France was not a surprise to me. There is a lot of ethnic angst in that country.

Maybe I am confusing race with culture or ethnicity. I thought that france was very accepting of different cultures and lifestyles? I thought that they just hated Americans but I guess they hate everyone.

What about isreal. I realize that there are religious and cultural issues going on there but do jews and arabs consider themselves different races?

P.S. I would prefer that my neighbors be mormon but I don't care what race they are... as long as they are not from Texas! ( that was for FM coug).

Gallic pride. I expected Japan to be less open than it apparently is.

Here's one that's closer to home. This site has a map of the US that breaks down tweets using 'hate' tweets. Pretty interesting (and to me disturbing)

Idaho has been a bastion for hate groups for a long time. There's a large white supremacist movement there.

So there's a patch of homophobes in Park City. I didn't see that coming.

Yes, the Ashkenazi and Sephardi lineages of Jews that immigrated to Israel are different from Arabs...going further back, Canaanites are not Arabs either.

The French are, in fact, NOT very tolerant of other cultures (they're not hot on non-"French" lifestyles either...but that's whole 'nother ball of wax). French naturalization hinges very tightly on assimilation and acculturation. Further, it's not uncommon for "blood French" to publicly deny the legitimacy of the citizenship granted to immigrant children. To sum up, in shocking news, the French can be dicks.

I thought the white supremacists were mostly in north Idaho. I would think there is too much in Malad and Burley, both small farming towns. Can we summon Goatnapper's or Grapevine for more info?

Awesome. This kind of thing moves me closer to believing in a cosmic purpose to human existence.

It does make me feel pretty good about the USA.
